Happy Mother's Day to Young and Old
Jacob, Swanson the Eleventh and I were on early morning radio in Cincinnati together, for several years. I learned a great deal of things from him that have helped me as a pastor, one of which was how to honor our MOTHER'S on Mother's Day. I was thinking of him as we approach Mother's Day 2026, here are a few special things others have said to memorialize the importance of our mother's:
Thousands of people around the world have voted and "Mother" is the most beautiful word in the English language.
It may not be the most glamorous or fashionable word in the English language, but it represents an image of comfort and of home, heart and hearth. In its diminutive form it is often the first and sometimes the last word we utter in our lives. No one has ask me, but "Mother" has my vote as well, and I imagine yours also. A British Council survey of 40,000 people in 102 non-English-speaking countries has put the word at the top of a 70-strong list.
When Krista was just an infant we waited on pins and needles for her to come out of the surgery unit at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was one in 10,000 children born with Infantile Glaucoma and her sight was a matter of concern. It seemed like we heard it was longer than it should have taken, but far down the hall from the waiting room we heard a raspy little voice cry out, "MOMMA!" It was Krista and you have never seen a mother sprint the hall of a hospital like GayNell did that afternoon. She jumped to her feet like every other mother would have done, to run to her baby's side. What Momma would have not tried to out run her to their child's side? It is just what a Momma does. It is something done, because God has put a piece of His nature in all mother's.
Momma's, we love you and are thankful for you. You are the influencers of the finest order. My mother, as I have often said, was my evangelist who lived a life that turned my heart toward God.
