The Hearing Ear

I enjoy writing these letters, and I communicate this way to stay in touch with you; the individuals that are important to me. That leads me to this question, did you know that God chose to communicate with mankind through the Holy Bible because we are important to Him?

One verse that I have really taken to heart over the years is, "take heed how you hear." When John was seeking to get the seven churches of Asia's attention in Revelations, he addresses them the same way, "He that has an ear let them hear what the Spirit says to the church."

I have thought about this often through my studies.  I have come to the conclusion that God is always speaking, but it seems we are not always listening. We do are best listening when we meditate on what we read and study.

MEDITATION IS CALLED THE EAR OF THE SOUL

It is a wise teacher that taught their students that we were blessed with two ears and one tongue, which teaches us that we should listen twice as much, as we should speak

Solomon the Wise writes in Proverbs 28:9 (MSG) - "God has no use for the prayers of people who won't listen to him." In other words; when we turn a deaf ear to God, God turns a deaf ear to us. When you think of the scripture in Revelations, where God is knocking at the door of the church, He is inviting Himself in to have fellowship with those whom He has bought with His own blood.

In the Song of Solomon, the word picture is the Lover knocking at the door when the Beloved has already gone to bed. In her delay, she misses the opportunity to be with Him. (I believe God is knocking at the door and we must not miss our moment of interlude with Him.) The opposite scenario would be; us knocking on heaven's door and then running away before we hear what He would say to us. Have you ever left a doctor's office not understanding the language in his diagnosis of your problems? They give you a name for the issue, but you do not understand it. That is word is called C.O.I.K., which means:
CLEAR, ONLY, IF, KNOWN
The Lord is never vague when it comes to definition and diagnosis of our needs. "Come now, and let us reason together," says the Lord, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Thought they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."

When we have hearing issues, we go to the Audiologist for their expertise in hearing loss and related disorders. Jesus is a hearing specialist who receives walk-ins, and He is open for business. One of my heroes was Pastor R.C. Tillery. A member of his church had hearing problems, and he asked him to drive him to a hearing doctor because he had pain in his ear, which Pastor Tillery agreed to. The doctor diagnosed and was able to remove the problem. He found over ninety maggots in his ear! The brother was a pine tree fence post cutter, and a blowfly had gotten into his ears and laid its larvae thus creating the pain.

Could it be that what some people are hearing is causing them a loss of hearing? I had a member that was cleaning his hear with a cotton swab one Sunday Morning and punched a hole in his eardrum.

That was a Sunday morning he will always remember, not what I preached but punching a hole in his eardrum.

Be blessed this week and "take heed how you hear".

I believe in you,

Your pastor,

Pastor Cleddie Keith
